What is Breast Reduction Surgery?
It is an operation performed to reduce the existing volume of the breast and bring it to the ideal form targeted for aesthetic and health reasons.
Who can undergo breast reduction and lift surgery?
Patients whose breast tissue is disproportionately large and saggy compared to body tissue are suitable for breast reduction or lift surgery.
What Problems Does Breast Size Cause?
Breast size can cause serious psychological problems in young patients. Breasts that are too large, especially during the developmental period, cause a serious loss of self-confidence in our girls. In addition, large breast tissue constantly pulls the spine forward over time, causing a hunchback and disrupting the upright posture, creating shoulder and neck problems. Another important problem is diaper rash under the breast. Especially in hot weather, serious diaper rash formations are observed on the skin under the breast tissue. In addition to physical problems, large and sagging breasts cause a serious loss of self-confidence in women. Women who cannot wear the clothes they want often have to choose clothes that will hide their breasts. In addition, sagging breasts reduce women's sexual self-confidence, and their sexual relationships with their partners are negatively affected by this situation.
From What Age Should Breast Reduction or Lift Surgery Be Performed?
The routine age for breast reduction and lift surgery is after the age of 18. In addition, in some rare diseases, breast tissue grows very rapidly at earlier ages and these surgeries can be performed at younger ages. There is no upper limit in breast surgery as long as the patient's health allows it.
What are the Risks of Breast Reduction or Lift Surgery?
The most common problem in the early period is the formation of hematoma due to bleeding in the surgery area. In this case, if the amount of hematoma gradually increases, you may need to undergo surgery again. Another and very rare early risk is infection, and in this case, healing problems may occur in your breast incisions and wound healing may be delayed. During this process, you may have to have frequent dressings and use antibiotics. Patients who develop an infection may experience poorer healing of scars in these areas after the infection subsides. Although it is very rare in the early period, another problem that can occur is the loss of nipple tissue due to lack of adequate nutritional support. In this case, asymmetry may occur between the nipples and the nipple may need to be reconstructed with the help of additional methods and surgeries.

Will My Breasts Be the Same After Breast Surgery?
It is very rare for breasts to be exactly symmetrical after breast surgery. In other words, complete symmetry is not a frequency but a rare condition. Since the two halves of the body are not symmetrical, there may be asymmetries in both the shape and placement of the nipple after the surgery. Additionally, breast shapes and sizes will not be exactly the same.
How to Determine the Correct Breast Shape and Size?
In order for breasts to look beautiful, they must have a volume and form proportional to the body they are in. First of all, it must be ensured that the patient meets the necessary health criteria. The aim of breast reduction surgery is to create a form that is proportional to the body and completely symmetrical.
How is Breast Reduction Surgery Performed?
The breasts are positioned at the desired size, excess tissue and skin are removed by a method chosen according to the patient's condition, and the breast size is brought to the breast, and most importantly, the correct breast perpendicularity is achieved.
How Long Does Breast Reduction and Lift Surgery Take?
Breast reduction and lift surgery takes an average of 2.5 hours. Apart from this surgery duration, other factors should also be understood by the relatives waiting for our patient. First of all, our patients are not taken into surgery as soon as they enter the operating room. Our patients are called to the operating room half an hour before the surgery begins and they are taken to rest in the waiting room. Considering that our patients waited in the recovery room for half an hour at the end of the surgery, when the transportation times are added, the total time can be considered as 1.5 hours for the patient's relatives in addition to the surgery time.
Is Breast Reduction a Painful Procedure?
You may have mild pain for a few days after surgery. There may be slight pain when moving your arms, which can be relieved with simple painkillers. Contrary to popular belief, breast reduction surgeries are less painful surgeries. Frequently using simple painkillers for a day or two provides adequate pain control.
Does Smoking Cause Problems?
The negative effects of smoking on wound healing have been proven by many studies today. In all types of plastic surgery, quitting smoking three weeks before the surgery and not smoking for two weeks after the surgery will greatly increase the likelihood of better wound healing.
I'm Afraid of Anesthesia, Should I Be Afraid?
General anesthesia is quite safe with current medical knowledge. When some tests recommended by our anesthesiologists are performed on our patients, it becomes easier to detect existing risks and the probability of the process going more smoothly increases. In addition, although it is very rare, the human body may react negatively during anesthesia. In these cases, the importance of performing and having surgery in a fully equipped hospital becomes evident. Equipped hospitals make it easier for us to overcome problems with their experienced physician staff. The night before the surgery, all our patients should not eat or drink anything after 12 at night. This is the most important element for anesthesia to be performed safely. In the meeting held the day before, patients will be told what time they need to be in surgery and hospital. Being in the hospital at this time is very important for the healthy operation of the surgery process.
How Many Days Will I Stay in the Hospital After Breast Reduction and Lift?
Patients who undergo breast reduction are often hospitalized for one night and discharged the next day by removing the drains placed in the breast.
How Much Corset or Surgical Bra Should I Wear After Breast Surgery?

Before Breast Reduction Surgery
First of all, you should determine your expectations about the operation very well and explain them to your surgeon. You should share your personal and family history of illnesses and then get your medical examination. After the necessary examinations and tests, breast size should be determined in proportion to breast volume, nipple location and body dimensions.
Things to Consider Before Surgery
It is important to make sure that your surgery is scheduled for a time other than your menstrual period. You should not smoke 3 weeks before and after the surgery. You should not take blood thinners 10 days before surgery. You must not have consumed alcohol in the last 48 hours. You should notify the doctor if you develop illnesses such as flu, cold, or sore throat.
After Breast Reduction Surgery
The postoperative period is usually mildly painful; You may feel mild pain with arm movement or coughing.
Things to Consider After Surgery
If you lie in a slightly sitting position, your edema or pain will decrease more quickly. Do not smoke during the recovery period. After day 8, you can take a warm bath, continue your normal daily activities, and work out while wearing a sports bra, but you should limit your arm movements for about 15 days. You should wear your sports bra for up to 3 weeks. You should avoid physical contact with your chest area and strenuous sports and activities for the first two months.
Healing Process
You must stay in hospital for one day. If you do not have any problems, you can be discharged the next day.

Recovery times may vary for each patient. Antibiotics and painkillers may be given for protection for a week.

If dissolvable stitches are used, they do not need to be removed. (If permanent stitches are used, they will be removed in approximately 15 days.) Only the stitch lines are closed with thin tape. You will wear a soft and elastic sports bra that completely covers and supports the breasts for 3 weeks.

After the second dressing, you can continue your normal daily activities and work. Edema and bruises in the surgery area will heal within 2-3 weeks.

After a few months, the lower edges of the breasts take their normal shape and the breasts fall into place. Scars begin to heal. It takes about a year for the breasts to take their final shape and the scars to become unnoticeable.

At 6 and 12 months after breast reduction surgery, you will have a follow-up exam as well as an ultrasound.
Price of Breast Reduction Surgery
Personalized pricing is applied for reasons such as the patient's need for non-routine examinations before surgery or the structure of the breasts and the method to be chosen for the procedure.
Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Reduction
Who Can Have Breast Reduction Surgery?
In general, surgery is considered in patients whose breast growth is not due to a hormonal cause, whose breast growth has stopped in the last 6 months, who has completed their development, who is determined to need reduction as a result of examinations and tests, and who has no contraindications to surgery. The healing process may vary from person to person.
Why Do Breasts Grow?
Breast tissue may enlarge due to hereditary traits, hormonal changes, fibrocystic mastopathy, pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight gain.
Do Breast Reduction or Lift Surgery Leave Scars?
After any type of plastic surgery, certain scars remain, even if special suturing techniques are used. The reason for this is that the cut skin cannot heal itself with new skin and scar tissue forms between the cut skins. The quality of this scar tissue determines the quality of the scar. Unfortunately, the most dominant role in the quality of this tissue is genetic factors. In other words, your genetic code determines the thickness and color of the scars, and contrary to expectations, the sewing technique has less effect on these scars.
What Kind of Scars Are Left in Breast Reduction or Lift Surgery?
Certain scars will definitely remain in breast reduction and lift surgeries. The simplest reason for this is that, when moving the sagging nipple to its new location, a scar must be added to the nipple and extending from the nipple to the lower breast groove. In addition, in patients where the skin is very abundant in the lower part of the breast, a scar may need to be added to the lower part of the breast. This incision scar is called a reverse t scar.
Can I Breastfeed My Baby After Breast Reduction and Lift Surgery? Will My Milk Come?
Breastfeeding after breast reduction and lift surgery has been investigated in many studies. First of all, women with large and sagging breasts have less milk-yielding capacity than women of medium and small size who do not have sagging. So having big breasts will not guarantee milk production. In breast reduction surgeries, the active parts of the mammary glands are preserved and their relationship with the nipple is not interrupted. For this reason, there is no reason for patients who have had breast reduction or lift to not breastfeed, and their breastfeeding is supported by us. However, just as a woman who has never had surgery cannot breastfeed, a woman who has had surgery may also not be able to breastfeed. There is no guarantee in this situation.

If you want to breastfeed, we should definitely talk about this with the surgeon before the surgery.
Is It Possible to Have Smaller Breasts Without Surgery?
There is no valid method for breast reduction other than surgical intervention. In some cases, breast volume may change slightly due to hormonal reasons related to pregnancy and excessive weight gain or loss.
How Many Days After Breast Reduction and Lift Surgery Can I Start Exercising?
You can start light walks on the 10th day after breast reduction surgery. In addition, it would be better not to start sports that require heavy effort before 3 months.
When Can I Start Working After Surgery?
Our patients can often return to work on the 10th day after breast augmentation surgery.
Can I be guaranteed to be satisfied with this plastic surgery?
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you will be satisfied with the results. Do not forget that you and your doctor are both humans. Due to problems arising from you and your doctor, there may be patients who are not fully satisfied with the results after surgery, and revision surgeries may be required in these patients.
Will I experience loss of sensation after breast reduction and lift surgery?
Nipple sensation comes from the outer part of the breast in 90-95 percent of patients, and from the inner part of the breast in 5-10 percent of patients. Since it is not possible to detect this situation in advance, 5-10 percent of patients experience loss of sensation in the early period after breast reduction surgery, but breast sensation returns in almost all of them at the end of the first year. There is a 1 percent chance of permanent loss of sensation in the nipple.
Are There Breast Reduction Exercises?
Regular exercise is useful for strengthening the pectoral muscles but does not lead to a significant change in volume.
When Can I Travel?
You can travel after 1 week, provided you do not miss your follow-up appointments, and it is recommended that you avoid driving for approximately 2 weeks.
What Happens If I Gain Weight?
Extreme weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding and gravity can cause breast volume to increase and sag again. In this case, there is no harm in repeating the procedure, provided that the technique used in the first operation is known to the surgeon.
I Have Keloid Scars, Can I Have Breast Reduction and Lift Surgery?
Keloid patients should not have this surgery. Excessive scars seriously reduce surgery satisfaction.
What Can I Do to Make My Scars Remain Less?
The first thing to do is not to smoke. In addition, keeping the wound areas moist with moisturizing creams increases the efficiency of wound healing. Another precaution is to prevent the wound areas from exposure to the sun or solarium. During the healing period, wound areas exposed to sunlight may darken and this may persist permanently. This period of attention is three months. In addition, using creams recommended by doctors that are thought to reduce scarring, twice a day for three months, starting on the 15th day of surgery, will support wound healing. Another support system is the use of silicone sheets in patients who need it. Although these layers are not necessary for every patient, they help reduce scars in necessary patients.
